On August 9, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Resolution “On the appointment of named scholarships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for young scientists – doctors of science in 2023.” In accordance with the Resolution, based on the results of the competition, 48 named scholarships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for young scientists – doctors of sciences have been appointed in 2023.
The Summer School on “Sustainable Development Goals: Global Challenges, Local Actions, Achieved Results” and the Liverpool Summer School on Council of Europe Law, which lasted from July 3 to 21, have recently ended.
The summer schools were attended by teachers and graduate students of the Criminal Law and Procedure department in a remote form. The senior teacher of the department, Maryna UTKINA, took part in the events in person.
In 2023, within the “Jean Monet” direction of the Erasmus+ program, the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure became the winner in two projects, in particular:
1) “EU Experience on the Protection of Personal Data in Cyberspace” – manager Dumchykov Mykhailo
2) “The Protection of IP Rights of Researchers and Research Institutions in Ukraine: Best EU Practices” – manager Utkina Marina

On July 13, 2023, Olha BONDARENKO, Head of the Department of Сriminal Legal Discipline and Judiciary participated in the 3rd International Conference on Social Science at Ridwan Institute (Indonesia). She delivered a presentation on the particularities of combating corruption in Ukrainian higher education institutions within the framework of the increasing emphasis on academic integrity policies. The conference covered various topics related to the development of higher education in the contemporary world, with a special focus on ensuring access to higher education during crisis situations.
Olga Bondarenko, head of the Criminal Law and Procedure department, as part of the partnership with Sumy State University, took part in the international summer school from the University of Liverpool from June 12 to 30, 2023 in the module “Fake news, fake science and critical thinking”. On June 29, the defense of works based on the results of the first module took place. Olga Bondarenko devoted herself to researching the relationship between corruption and fake news.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine held a solemn awarding ceremony for the finalists of the All-Ukrainian Youth Competition “Legal Education of the Future”. The Council of Young Lawyers of Ukraine, the Institute of Political, Legal and Religious Studies, the Kyiv Small Academy of Sciences of Student Youth, the Analytical Center for the Quality of Education with the assistance of the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education and with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine ensured the holding of the All-Ukrainian of the youth competition “Legal Education of the Future” in 2023, in which almost 4,000 people from all over Ukraine took part.
Mykyta Kovalevskyi, a student of the Academic and Research Institute of Law of the Sumy State University, won the second place from among higher education institutions. We are proud of the talented youth of our university!
The department’s team’s success in organizing students’ scientific work was marked by the second place in the university-wide competition “The best unit for organizing students’ scientific work” based on the results of 2022.
On June 6-7, 2023, Dmytro Volodymyrovych Maletov, assistant professor of thedepartment Criminal Law and Procedure Academic and Research Institute of Law NNI Sumy State University, took part in the training “Application of the practice of the ECtHR in the consideration of criminal proceedings on corruption”.
The training took place within the framework of the project “Support of higher education institutions displaced by the European Union in the east of Ukraine”, which is implemented by UNDP within the framework of the UN Program for Reconstruction and Peacebuilding with the financial support of the European Union.

Associate Professor, Dr. Maryna Utkina, a senior lecturer of the department, participated and presented her scientific project in a two-day British Academy-supported workshop “Development of academic skills in Great Britain and the international context” (24th and 25th May, Wigan (Great Britain). A total of 11 scientists were selected to participate in the workshop.
On May 15, 2023, Inna Savytska, a graduate of the Academic and Research Snstitute of Law, who currently works at the State Institution of the Sumy Correctional Colony, spoke at a lecture session on the “Criminal and Enforcement Law”. She spoke about the peculiarities of the detention of convicts in the correctional colony, about changes in the conditions of martial law, technical points regarding the registration of personal files of convicts.
