The certificate program's aim
The dynamic development of modern information technologies has contributed to the emergence of a series of specific legal relations in the digital environment. They required proper regulation, which led to the emergence of information technology law.
Despite the fact that IT law is associated with data protection law, the last one is a broader category and includes the regulation of relations, the object of which is data of any type, and not only in digital form. IT law is closely related to other fields of law, especially civil, commercial and administrative. It is developing swiftly and needs both proper theoretical development and relevant legislation, without which it is impossible to meet the current needs for the design of the latest software, AI, E-commerce systems, cyber threats, etc.
Considering this, it is necessary to train specialists who could provide consultations on contract law aspects. Including drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and software license agreements, developing legal mechanisms for personal data protection; providing consultations to IT companies. Resolving disputes in the field of IT, including participation in court and arbitration proceedings; providing advice on risk management.
Сertificate program corresponds to the mission and Strategic Development Plan of SumDU for 2020-2026. Especially in terms of ensuring the high requirements of the labour market with specialists of the new generation, which is able to work in a fast-changing, multifunctional environment.
The need for hiring legal employees to assist IT businesses’ operations is rising in light of the industry’s tremendous growth.
The program is designed in accordance with the University’s mission and strategy. It is aimed at providing students with in-depth theoretical legal knowledge and practical skills, including drafting and negotiating the terms of commercial contracts and software license agreements and developing legal mechanisms for the protection of personal data. Besides, giving advice to IT companies; resolving disputes in the field of IT, which includes participation in litigation and arbitration proceedings; advising on risk management issues.
Specificity of the program.
The speciality 081 “Law” is implemented as part of the educational program “Law”, which provides training in accordance with the standard of the speciality.
Meanwhile, there is a need for more specialized training of students. Quarantine restrictions, for example, demonstrate how deeply new technologies have affected our daily lives. IT is one of Ukraine’s three leading export industries in terms of software and services. Every year the number of IT specialists is growing. This major industry requires specialists capable of providing competent legal support. It explains the importance of implementing a certificate program aimed at providing training of experts in the area, making it more professional, comprehensive and relevant.
A Certificate will also benefit alumni in their employment and be a factor in getting applicants to the university.
This program will be carried out within the speciality 081 “Law” as part of the individual training plan and by supplementing the general education programme catalogue of academic disciplines.
