On September 30, 2026, the Jean Monnet project “EU Experience on Enhancing Protection of Personal Data in Cyberspace” (EUEPPDC, 101125350) came to an end. Over the course of three years, it was implemented by the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines and Procedure at Sumy State University. The key outcomes of the project are highlighted in the infographic.

Key achievements during 2023–2026:

  • Developed and implemented the training course “EU Experience on Enhancing Protection of Personal Data in Cyberspace,” covering 340 academic hours across three academic years;

  • 304 students participated in the three study cycles of the course;

  • Created an open online course on the Sumy State University “Examenarium” platform, which enrolled more than 180 users;

  • Held a five-day Summer School titled “Personal Data Protection and Cybersecurity: European Experience in the Context of Military Conflict,” bringing together 131 participants from various regions of Ukraine;

  • Organized a round table, three practice-oriented workshops, open lectures, presentations, and awareness-raising events for students, pupils, lecturers, researchers, public authorities, law enforcement agencies, and cybersecurity specialists;

  • In total, 757 participations were recorded across the project’s ten core educational and public events;

  • Published 5 research articles in peer-reviewed Ukrainian and international journals, as well as conference proceedings at the 8th International Scientific and Practical Online Conference “Reforming the Legal System in the Context of European Integration Processes”;

  • Prepared and published the study guide “Transformation of National Approaches to the Protection of Personal Data in Cyberspace Based on EU Standards,” the electronic version of which is available in the Sumy State University repository.

Due to the security situation in the city of Sumy, all project events were held online. This format ensured the continuity of planned activities and allowed participants from different regions of Ukraine to join. The one-day workshop formats also took into account security restrictions and frequent power outages.

The project contributed to disseminating EU standards and GDPR principles in the field of personal data protection, raising legal awareness, digital literacy, and cyber hygiene skills. Participants gained practical knowledge on digital identity protection, secure use of mobile devices, and identifying phishing and other cyber threats.

Furthermore, cooperation among the university, public authorities, law enforcement bodies, cybersecurity professionals, educational institutions, and civil society was reinforced. The developed curriculum, open educational resources, academic publications, and the study guide will remain accessible following the project’s completion.

We express our gratitude to all participants, keynote speakers, experts, and partners who contributed to the project’s implementation throughout these three years!
