On 6 November 2024, students of the Intellectual Property educational programme had the opportunity to attend an online lecture on the “Legal Regime of Co-authorship” held via the Zoom platform. The lecture was delivered by Anna Shtefan, Doctor of Law, practicing lawyer, international project expert, and Head of the Department of Copyright and Related Rights at the Intellectual Property Research Institute. She shared her extensive experience and insights on the legal regulation of co-authorship and the complexities that arise in this field.
The participants showed a strong interest in the topic, actively discussing various aspects of the legal framework for co-authorship. The lecture was particularly engaging for students with respect to the legal status and regulation of authorship generated by artificial intelligence, both in Ukraine and abroad. They were curious about how intellectual property rights are determined for works created with the assistance of AI algorithms and discussed the possibilities for legally recognising such outcomes as co-authored works.
The students expressed their gratitude to Anna Shtefan for the opportunity to receive detailed explanations on such pressing issues and for inspiring further research in this area. The lecture provided them with a deeper understanding of the international legal framework of intellectual property, especially regarding new challenges related to AI-generated authorship, and laid a solid foundation for further analysis within their educational programme.
