On 3 June 2026, the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure of the Academic and Research Institute of Law at Sumy State University hosted a practical workshop entitled “Effective Patent Searching: Strategies and Tools in the Commercialisation of Innovations.” The event was conducted by Yevheniia Lytvynenko, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure and Head of the Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) at Sumy State University.
During the workshop, participants explored key types of patent searches, approaches to formulating search queries and analysing results, as well as the capabilities of both free and professional patent information platforms. Particular attention was paid to the use of patent landscapes in the field of AI software in Ukraine and the European Union, which represents an important component of the successful commercialisation of innovative developments.
As a result of the workshop, students and early-career researchers received practical recommendations on developing their own patent search strategies for research projects, start-ups, and cooperation with business partners.
