During the meeting, the participants discussed the conceptual framework of the forthcoming COIL project, its academic content, organizational mechanisms for implementation, formats of interaction between faculty and students, as well as the prospects for long-term academic cooperation between the departments of the two universities.
The meeting was attended on behalf of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure by Olha Malietova, Head of the Department, and Mykhailo Dumchykov, Associate Professor of the Department. Representing the American partner institution, Doris Schartmueller of California State University, Chico took part in the discussion.
Particular attention was devoted to student participation in the COIL project. Specifically, the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure plans to engage second-year students of the “Law Enforcement” degree programme in international online collaboration. Through this initiative, students will gain experience working in international teams, comparing approaches to criminal justice systems, analysing the functioning of law enforcement agencies, and discussing pressing legal challenges in a global context.
The planned COIL project constitutes a significant step in advancing the international activities of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure. It contributes to the internationalisation of the educational process, enhances the practice-oriented nature of legal education, and fosters the development of students’ contemporary professional and intercultural competences.
