The Coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module ERASMUS-JMO-2023-MODULE – ERASMUS2027 – 101125350 – “EUEPPDC: EU Experience in Personal Data Protection in Cyberspace” and Associate Professor at the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure of the Academic and Research Institute of Law of Sumy State University, Mykhailo Dumchykov, delivered an educational lecture for pupils of the 8th and 9th grades of Secondary School No. 4 of the Sumy community.
The lecture, entitled “Cybercrime in the Modern World: Challenges of Personal Data Protection and Strategies for Counteraction”, aligns closely with the thematic focus of the Jean Monnet Module EUEPPDC, which aims to disseminate European experience in the fields of cybersecurity, digital rights, and the protection of personal data.
During the session, Mykhailo Dumchykov explained the most common types of cybercrime related to the unlawful acquisition and misuse of personal data, the mechanisms behind such offences, and contemporary tools for their detection and prevention. The pupils were introduced to European Union best practices on privacy protection, digital security, and the importance of cultivating responsible behaviour in the online environment.
Special emphasis was placed on real-life examples of cyber incidents, methods for identifying potential threats, principles of digital hygiene, and the legal avenues available to individuals whose rights have been violated. The format of the session was interactive: pupils actively engaged in discussion, posed questions, and analysed everyday situations associated with risks in cyberspace.
The implementation of the EUEPPDC project and the organisation of such educational activities contribute to enhancing young people’s digital literacy, fostering skills in the secure handling of personal data, and strengthening an understanding of the importance of legal culture within the digital domain.
