Olena Klypa, PhD in Law and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Criminal Law and Judiciary of the Academic and Research Institute of Law (Sumy State University), has successfully completed the “Online UGent Academy on EU Law and Policy for Ukrainian Lecturers” course. The program was implemented by Ghent University (Belgium) within the framework of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet program.
The training program took place from April 21 to June 18, 2026, and was designed to enhance the professional expertise of Ukrainian lecturers, researchers, and other specialists in the field of European Union law and policy.
The sessions were conducted by leading experts from Ghent University. The curriculum covered a broad spectrum of current issues concerning European integration: the history and evolution of the European Union, its institutional framework, human rights protection, the rule of law, democracy and legitimacy, internal market law, competition law, the digital economy, and the regulation of crypto-assets. Particular emphasis was placed on the EU’s external action, neighborhood policy, sanctions regimes, security and defense, Association Agreements, and bilateral relations between the European Union and Ukraine.
The training facilitated a deeper comprehension of the EU’s institutional architecture, the specificities of its policy formulation and implementation, and the mechanisms for safeguarding human rights and ensuring the rule of law. Exploring the complexities of European integration, EU-Ukraine relations, and contemporary challenges in security and digital regulation has broadened professional insights into the current trends shaping the European legal framework.
The successful completion of this international program marks a significant step in advancing the professional competencies of the academic staff and expanding the university’s international academic collaborations.
