On September 29, 2026, at the Academic and Research Institute of Law of Sumy State University, a practical masterclass was held for students of the specialty K9 “Law Enforcement” on the topic “How to Build a Law Enforcement Career in ESG and CSR.” The event, conducted by the teachers implementing the project, took place as part of the “Introduction to the Specialty” discipline and the implementation of the research project “Non-financial reporting as a tool for human capital assessment.”
The modern labor market dictates new requirements for specialists in the field of law enforcement. Professional knowledge in law and security is increasingly being combined with competencies in risk management, compliance, anti-corruption activities, corporate security, sustainable development, and responsible management. That is why the masterclass was aimed at expanding students’ understanding of the opportunities for professional realization after graduation.
During the event, participants were introduced to the concept of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and its main components: environmental responsibility, social aspects of organizational activities, and proper corporate governance. Special attention was paid to the observance of human rights, professional ethics, corruption prevention, risk management, internal control, and the formation of a safe and responsible organizational environment.
Students of the K9 “Law Enforcement” specialty discussed how a law enforcement officer’s competencies can be applied in new professional fields. Analytical thinking, the ability to assess risks, work with large arrays of information, apply legislation, conduct inspections, identify potential threats, and make informed decisions are essential components of professional activity not only in law enforcement agencies but also in modern corporate security and management systems.
Separate attention during the masterclass was given to CSR, the development of professional competencies, and the formation of an individual career trajectory. Participants had the opportunity to identify the skills that need to be developed for successful professional realization, as well as to discuss the importance of digital literacy, communication, critical thinking, knowledge of foreign languages, teamwork, and professional ethics.
Particularly valuable was the realization that the modern training of a law enforcement officer involves not only mastering legislation and special disciplines but also forming a broad complex of universal professional competencies. These exact skills allow a specialist to be mobile in the labor market and adapt to new challenges in the fields of security, law, and management.
The masterclass became an important component of the professional orientation for the students of the K9 “Law Enforcement” specialty and demonstrated the broad prospects for the professional development of SumDU Institute of Law graduates.
