On 3 April 2025, the Head of the KPDS Department, Olha Maletova, took part in the event “IP Court in Ukraine: The Last Chapter or a New Beginning?” organised by the Ukrainian Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Committee in collaboration with the Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovations. The event was held in Kyiv in a hybrid format (offline and online), bringing together leading experts in the field of intellectual property.
The primary objective of the event was to discuss the role and prospects of the High Court on Intellectual Property within Ukraine’s legal system. Participants analysed international experiences in establishing specialised IP courts, examined current challenges, and developed a professional stance on potential pathways for the development of this institution in Ukraine.
The discussions featured representatives from the judiciary, government bodies, business sector, academic community, and human rights organisations. The sessions addressed key topics, including:
- Is the High Court on Intellectual Property essential for effective rights protection and Ukraine’s European integration?
- Legal and political obstacles to launching the IP Court.
- International experiences and their adaptation to the Ukrainian context.
- The role of the IP Court in fostering an innovative economy and attracting investments.
- Prospects for reforming or transforming the concept of this court.
The event served as a platform for discussing concrete steps towards the launch of the High Court on Intellectual Property and contributed to shaping expert opinions on the future of this initiative in Ukraine.
