Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure Participates in the II International Congress on Sustainable Social Development

From October 16 to 18, 2024, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure, Marina Utkina, took part in the II International Congress on Sustainable Social Development, held in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Marina Utkina was one of the keynote speakers, presenting her research findings in a paper titled “The Use of Financial Monitoring to Achieve SDG 16: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Global Governance and Sustainable Development.”

In her presentation, Utkina highlighted the significance of financial monitoring as a tool for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16, which aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, ensure access to justice, and create effective, accountable institutions. She emphasized that financial monitoring is a vital element in combating corruption, money laundering, and financial crime, as well as fostering transparency and trust in legal and economic systems. Her research takes a multidisciplinary approach, involving experts from fields such as economics, law, sociology, and information technology to comprehensively address sustainable development issues.

The II International Congress on Sustainable Social Development aimed to unite international specialists to discuss pressing challenges of sustainable development and to foster synergy among researchers from various fields. The Congress focused on promoting multidisciplinary research, sharing innovations, and transferring knowledge valuable for society and businesses. Participants discussed a broad range of topics—from environmental sustainability and social development to global governance, with an emphasis on building an inclusive and just future.

Marina Utkina’s presentation at the Congress highlights the vital role of Ukrainian scholars in the international dialogue on sustainable development and demonstrates Ukraine’s active commitment to achieving the UN’s global sustainable development goals. Her research supports the development of new approaches to ensuring social stability and rule of law at an international level.
