Introduction

The purpose of the course
The purpose of the course is to provide higher education students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in working with personal data. The main goal is to develop a culture of handling data in professional activities, as well as an understanding of the legal regimes of information related to personal data. Students are required to demonstrate knowledge of the essence and content of the right to privacy, the main standards of the EU and the Council of Europe in the field of personal data protection, as well as the concept of “personal data” and its types.
Course objectives
- Consider the main legal acts of the EU regulating the protection of personal data in cyberspace (in particular, the General Data Protection Regulation). How do these norms interact with the national legislation of the EU countries?
- Identify the main cyber threats and risks related to the protection of personal data. What strategies can help organizations counter these threats?
- Analyze cases of personal data protection violations in EU countries and their consequences. How do these cases affect legislation and approaches to data protection?
- To investigate the role and functions of supervisory authorities responsible for the protection of personal data in EU countries. How do they contribute to regulatory compliance?
- Determine how the EU responds to global challenges in the field of personal data protection, in particular, data sharing with third countries and international standards.
- Analyze which technological innovations (artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, etc.) affect the protection of personal data, and how EU legislation takes these technological changes into account.
- Consider the prospects for the development of EU legislation in the field of personal data protection, in particular, what innovations can be introduced to respond to growing cyber threats.
Target group
students of all specialties, teachers, practicing lawyers, representatives of public organizations, students and all those interested in the subject of the course.
